NIMk
NIMk
It’s taken a while to get back into normal work routines after the Wearables fest at Melkweg in Amsterdam, hosted by the Netherlands Institute for Art & New Media (NIMk). Part of a wider festival, 5 days off, NIMk presented wearable concepts by artists from around the world, including SubTela, Di Mainstone and Elena Corchero. The Friendship Jewellery and Stille were there, with curator Susanne Jaschko wearing one of the pendants to host the opening fashion show, and Stille featured in the festival print brochure. Migration featured as work in progress in discussion with other delegates. It was fantastic to see Di’s work for real, result of residencies and collaborations with some of the most prestigious labs in the field, including V2, Banff and Eyebeam, and also to find new practitioners (to me) such as Mauro Arrighi, Marina Toeters and Stijn Ossevoort. I also enjoyed Markus Kison’s Vamity Ring, which is updated with your daily internet hits to reflect your contemporary popularity rating (equivalent to the carat weight of your diamond)...is 1750 good?. Usually I take loads of photos of events like this, but for some reason here I didn’t. Here’s a link in the meantime to some video and streamed TV footage, and I’ll find a Flickr set for you soon.
